1. Material Selection and Cutting

• Using a whole piece of solid brass/copper plate (rejecting spliced ​​or mixed copper), craftsmen cut out the lighter's outer shell and inner liner blanks according to the design dimensions using hand saws or wire cutting equipment (for auxiliary positioning), ensuring uniform copper thickness and preparing for subsequent hollowing.

2. Hand-Hollowing and Shaping

• This is one of the most crucial steps. Craftsmen use miniature grinding drills, files, and other tools to manually hollow out the copper shell blank, controlling the cavity depth and wall thickness (usually 2-3mm wall thickness, ensuring a substantial yet not bulky feel).  They also manually polish the edges and corners to create the square shape with rounded transitions, preventing sharp edges.
• The inner liner is also manually shaped, reserving space for the flint wheel, wick, and oil-absorbing cotton.

3. Taotie Pattern Engraving and Polishing

• First, the Taotie pattern is hand-drawn onto the surface of the copper casing with a pencil (a simplified reproduction of traditional Shang and Zhou dynasty patterns, balancing aesthetics and practicality). Then, a miniature engraving knife is used to manually carve the outlines of the pattern, with a depth controlled between 0.5-1mm to ensure clear and three-dimensional lines.
• After engraving, the edges of the pattern are repeatedly polished with fine sandpaper to remove burrs, ensuring a smooth feel and preventing dirt accumulation.
• Some models feature a hand-engraved "Fu" (fortune) character on the side or bottom, adding auspicious meaning.

4. Manual Welding and Assembly

• The upper and lower covers and hinge parts of the casing are joined using manual brazing (different from machine spot welding). The craftsman precisely controls the amount of solder and flame temperature to weld the copper components together. After welding, the solder joints are filed smooth to ensure a seamless surface and smooth, non-stick hinge operation.
• The inner components, such as the grinding wheel, flint spring, and cotton wick, are also manually assembled and adjusted by the craftsman to ensure a stable ignition rate.

5. Vintage Aging and Polishing

• First, the entire lighter is roughly polished to remove processing marks; then, a special aging solution (or traditional wood ash) is used for manual aging treatment, giving the copper casing a natural, vintage look.
• Finally, it is hand-polished with a fine cotton cloth to highlight the layered texture of the Taotie pattern and create a delicate luster on the copper surface, laying the foundation for subsequent patina oxidation.

6. Testing and Inspection

• The craftsman manually adds kerosene and tests the ignition rate (requiring a single ignition success rate of ≥95%), checks the oil storage sealing (no leakage when inverted), and adjusts the hinge opening angle (opening angle approximately 45°-60°, smooth opening and closing without looseness), ensuring that each finished product meets the usage standards.
